To systematically support the diverse research activities of our faculty members and to continuously conduct theoretical work on communication phenomena, as well as various surveys, analyses of current conditions, and research on policy development and alternative solutions, this department established and has been operating the Communication Research Institute since 1992. As a specialized research platform that builds a foundation for collaboration among researchers both within and outside the university and promotes the accumulation and dissemination of research outcomes, the Yonsei University Institute of Communication supports interdisciplinary collaborative research as well as the planning and execution of research projects. Furthermore, to promote international academic exchange and deepen scholarly discourse, the Institute regularly hosts academic lectures and colloquia, and carries out key initiatives to strengthen research capabilities, such as inviting distinguished scholars from abroad and expanding research networks. Furthermore, the Institute does not stop at developing research findings into academic achievements; it also sets as a key goal the expansion of its contribution to the public through policy recommendations based on analysis of social issues and empirical evidence. In addition, the college conducts active research based on major research support programs, such as the BK21 Project and the National Research Foundation of Korea’s Social Sciences Research (SSK) Support Program, and has been continuously enhancing the quality of its research. Furthermore, we have established and operate a multifaceted support system—including administrative and infrastructure support for securing research funding and carrying out projects, as well as support for academic activities aimed at disseminating research findings—to enable our faculty and staff to plan and pursue creative and challenging research. Through these efforts, we strive to promote academic innovation while accumulating and disseminating research outcomes that feature empirical analyses of social issues and policy implications.
