About the Department

Welcome

Department Head | Hyunjin Song

We live in an era where technology is redefining everyday life and the boundaries of communication are disappearing. Traditional journalism and media are undergoing a revolutionary evolution, and people are meeting, conversing, and sharing meaning anytime, anywhere.

However, there is one core principle that remains constant amid all change. The value of “democratic communication”—where people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives come together to discuss common issues and find solutions—transcends time and remains with us to this day. Believing in this very “power of communication,” the We has spent the past half-century fostering a more efficient and inclusive culture of communication within Korean society.

Since taking our first steps in 1972 as the “Department of Journalism and Broadcasting” at Yonsei University, we have stood at the forefront of journalism, communication, advertising, public relations, and film education in South Korea and Asia for over 50 years, witnessing major transformations in the media landscape. Convergence research that bridges creativity and social value is another area where The Department has consistently led the way.

Moving forward, the We will continue to grow as an educational and research institution recognized on the global stage, nurturing leaders in the fields of media and communication. Together with our current students, alumni, and everyone interested in the department, we will embark on a journey toward a better tomorrow. Thank you.
